The race began at 102nd in the Park, which meant in the first mile we’d head up the Great Hill. As I was running up the Great Hill in the first mile, a gentleman ahead of me had a sign pinned to his back announcing how it was his 500th race. That included 9 NYC Marathons, a few other marathons, over 300 NYRRC races, and about 150 other races. At this point, I’ve probably run maybe 20-30 road races and 500 seems a really long way off, but his attitude of You could do it too was great to hear.
